独立岩（Oedolgae）（将军石）是20米高，被称为南济州海金刚的西归浦70里海岸周围的奇岩怪石。距西归浦市区往西2公里处有三梅峰，独立岩耸立在三梅峰山脚下秀丽的大海上，是约150万年前火山爆发、熔岩喷出时所形成的。其顶上有几棵松树。
因為其型態孤独站在大海上，因得名为独立岩。另外，据传说，一位老太太在此处等待出海捕鱼的丈夫，终于变成为岩石。因此也被称为“婆婆岩石”。岩石顶头上生长着树与草，就像人的頭髮一样，从左边依稀地可看见老太太的额头、眼睛及鼻梁。张大嘴巴的形状像是老太太在大聲呼喊丈夫。独立岩下面有一块像是漂浮在海水的岩石，据说這是老太太变成岩石后，丈夫的尸体浮出水面也变成为岩石的。独立岩后面有叫仙女岩的奇岩怪石，它像屏风那样庇护着变成为岩石的老太太与丈夫。
据傳說，高丽末期崔莹将军在最后的战场，即独立岩后面的虎岛讨伐强占濟州島的蒙古牧民(牧胡)时，将独立岩裝扮为壯大的将军。当时躲在虎岛的敌兵目睹此景以为大将军摆阵而都自杀了。因此独立岩还被称为“将军石”。
去独立岩的左侧有牛头岩，此处分布着广阔的草地，在周围可钓鱼。独立岩已成为可同时享受休闲及娱乐的游览地。在独立岩后面的虎岛，在夕阳下显得格外壮观。
逗留在西歸浦时，早上或晚上可在三梅峰与独立岩散步。
独立岩约150万年前火山爆发时所形成，因波涛的浸蝕作用，只留下堅硬的岩石。
This is what Oeodolgae signifies - abandoned and separated from the headland.
With the unusual rocks surrounding the Haekum River at Namju and the Chilsipri coast of Seogwipo, the 20-meter stone pillar "Oeodolgae" stands out. Standing at the beautiful beach of Samebong Peak and located 2 km from the west of Seogwipo, it was formed by volcanic activity at the same time as Jeju Island 1.5 million years ago. A group of pine trees inhabit the top of the pillar.
Oedolgae was named for its isolated location on the sea. It is also called Grandmother rock (Halmangbawi) as legend has it that an old woman waited for her husband to return from a fishing trip. When he didnt come back, she became a rock. On the tip of the rock, some trees and grasses grow, resembling human hair. It will givfe you the impression that the old woman forehead, sorrowful eyes and nose can be faintly seen on the left side of the rock. The open mouth will make you feel like the old woman is calling for her husband.
There is a rock right under the Oedolgae that looks like it is floating. It is said that the rock is her husband body before she become a stone pillar. Spreading like a folding screen, the oddly-shaped Fairy Rock (Seonnyubawi) cliff surrounds the rock as if it is trying to embrace the stone couple.
Another story about the rock dates back to the time when General Choi Young of Gogureyo was battling against the Mongolian forces that were occupying Jeju Island. Beomseom Island at the back of Oedolgae was their last line of defence and the general cleverly disguised Oedolgae as a giant general to scare off the enemies. Fearing that a big general is standing guard against them, all of the enemies in Beomseom committed suicide. That why Oedolgae is also called the "General Rock".
On the way to Oedolgae, there is Cow Rock (Someribawi) on the left with a grassy area. The surrounding area is famous for its pleasant natural fishing spot, acting as a resort area where you can relax. The sunset on Beomseom Island viewed from Oedolgae is truly a majestic scene.
Morning and evening is good time for walking along Samebong Peak course while you are staying in Seogwipo.
Oedolgae was created by volcanic eruption 1.5 million years ago. It is called "sea stack" in academic terms because it was formed by continual wave erosion. Natural Protection Area of Museom Island and Beomseom Island was designated as National Monument No. 421 in July 2000.
